Honest review request — are GPS dog collars actually worth the price?

My Aussie Rio has gotten out twice in the past year (both times through a gate left open by a contractor). Both times we found her quickly but the panic was real. I've been looking at GPS collars — specifically the Fi Series 3 and the Whistle Go Explore.
Main hesitations: $150+ upfront plus a monthly subscription feels steep, I've seen mixed reviews on GPS accuracy in dense neighborhoods, and I'm not sure how they hold up on a dog who swims occasionally and rolls in everything.
Anyone with real long-term use of either? Is the peace of mind worth the ongoing cost?

I've tested both for 6 months each. Fi Series 3 wins on battery life (up to 3 months on LTE mode), step tracking, and the community network feature that pings other Fi collar owners nearby. Whistle has better health monitoring integration if that matters to you. For an Aussie who swims: both are IP67 waterproof, handles submersion fine. GPS accuracy in suburban/urban areas is 10-30 feet, which is plenty to find your dog. The subscription ($8-12/mo) is the ongoing reality — but when you've had two escapes, the math shifts. I'd go Fi Series 3.

Fi user for 14 months. My GSD mix got out once and I had her location in 45 seconds. That moment alone justified the whole price. The app is clean and the collar has held up to everything she's done to it including swimming and mud rolling.
